Issue 3 (July 2026)
Issue 3 of Coral Matters explores some of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing coral reefs today. From a comprehensive review of Marine Protected Areas and their effectiveness in conserving reef ecosystems, to the story behind the landmark study that transformed our understanding of Caribbean reef decline, this issue combines accessible science with practical insights for researchers, conservationists, and ocean enthusiasts alike.

Through a collection of feature articles, research highlights, and expert insights, this issue examines innovative restoration techniques, emerging technologies, and the growing importance of evidence-based conservation in helping reefs recover from increasing environmental pressures.
Alongside the main feature, readers will find the latest coral reef news from around the world, updates from The Coral Reef Research Hub, practical field advice, and contributions from members of the global coral reef community. Whether you are a student, researcher, conservation practitioner, or simply passionate about coral reefs, Issue 2 provides an engaging blend of scientific knowledge, professional development, and inspiration from across the world of coral reef science.
Issue 1 (January 2026)
The inaugural issue of Coral Matters explores the rapidly evolving world of coral reef science, with a special feature examining whether artificial intelligence could become one of the most powerful new tools available for coral reef conservation. Alongside this, the issue investigates whether coral reefs may be approaching a global ecological tipping point, reviews some of the most significant coral reef and climate stories from 2025, and showcases stunning underwater photography from the Caribbean island of Anguilla.
Readers will also find the first editions of several regular features, including Reef Roundup, Stories from the Field, Coral Career Column, and Get the Right Gear, together with the latest updates from The Coral Reef Research Hub.
