Coral fanatics, let’s talk marine conservation!

Hey all, I’m from the U.S., super excited to dive into a discussion about marine conservation politics—open to all perspectives, no sides here!
I read about the “Our Ocean, Our Future” Declaration from the UN Ocean Conference in Nice (June 2025). Over 170 countries vowed to decarbonize shipping, cut marine pollution and more, but I noticed the U.S. isn’t on board.
So, my big question: How can we push the U.S. toward ocean-friendly policies? Could amplifying public comment periods for bills like these help? Or maybe rallying organizations to back declarations with the U.S. name on them? How can individuals like us get involved to steer the U.S. toward environmental science and ecological awareness?
I’m thinking we need to spark action—maybe collaborate with groups to influence policy or share ideas to get our nation as fired up about climate solutions as possible. As a U.S. coral lover, I feel I haven’t done enough, and I know in my heart we consume the most per person, pushed by media toward agendas that don’t align with sharp, thoughtful solutions.
What are your ideas to get the U.S. on board? Let’s brainstorm!

Extending the comment period would for sure help, but also publicizing this stuff, as I am sure most people aren’t even aware of it. Publicity Publicity Publicity!!
